ok, I've read thru the Google map API and I have my own key for my maps. I only need to know how the devil did you get your maps of LOTRO working?

I've looked over your html code on the map page but I am not sure if I'm reading it right. It looks like there are several files that are stitched together by google maps in order to render it?

Please where is the documentation on how to use your own maps (instead of Google maps of earth)?

Thanks!

Hi! I'm glad to help fellow developers... the Maps API is very fun to play with.

Here are some links that should get you started.

http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/custommap.htm

The secret to this map is that I had to use the "Euclidean" map calculation because it is a flat coordinate system, not round like the earth. Here is a link for this: http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/customflat.htm

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Sounds so complicated :P you need any knowledge of scripting to start your own map of something?

I'll have to really sit down and look over the links and try it out. Google maps will surely change the face of many things now that you can host custom maps. I already have an idea for my work to make interactive maps for the visitors and such...

From what i've read, you end up with quite a collection of maps (256x256 and then the zoomed in versions of the areas). I've seen a post about using Photoshop which I hope will greatly help as I am a PS user :)

No sleep for me tonight it seems :)

Yes. I wrote a php script that extracts the the small 256x256 tile out of numbered large (2048x2048) image so it is much easier to create and update the map.

Here is a thread where I posted the code and discussed the method.

Here is my code for the radar map:

... Euclidean Projection Code ...

radarMapGetTileUrl=function(a,b){
countServer(2);
return 'http://ts'+app.sc2+'.arda-online.com/z'+b+'/'+a.x+'_'+a.y+'.jpg';
}
tilelayers = [new GTileLayer(copyrightCollection,0,10)];
tilelayers[0].getTileUrl = radarMapGetTileUrl;
radarMap = new GMapType(tilelayers, new EuclideanProjection(18),'Radar Map',{errorMessage:_mMapError});
var mapTypes = new Array(radarMap,illMap);
map = new GMap2(mapDiv, {mapTypes: mapTypes});
var p = new GLatLng(43.68507385253906,-6.876068115234375);
map.setCenter(p, 10, radarMap);

Good luck!
